Homes in Aksu
Aksu is the broad district east of Antalya city, between Lara and Serik. There is no single “Aksu house”: new estates are spreading around Altıntaş and the district centre, hotels line the coast at Kundu, and in between lie village houses around the ancient city of Perge, greenhouses, orchards and farmhouses.
With few tall buildings on the plain, windows get unbroken sun all day. Summers are hot and humid, and homes next to fields get dust on the wind. New flats have uPVC frames and wide balcony doors; old village houses have small, deep windows; villas open onto the garden through sliding doors.
Area by area
- Altıntaş: where most of the new complexes have gone up. Zebra blinds in the living room and blackout blinds in children’s rooms and bedrooms are the usual pairing, often ordered for the whole flat at once.
- Kemerağzı: effectively an extension of Lara; close to the sea, so rust-free fittings and washable fabrics last longer.
- Kurşunlu: green and leafy, known for its waterfall, with garden homes and weekend houses. Shade from trees means light sheers and natural-look curtains are often enough.
- Çalkaya, Topallı and Mandırlar: farmhouses and new detached homes among the greenhouses. Wooden blinds made to each odd-sized window and curtains on a decorative curtain pole suit their character.
- Around Perge: old stone houses and new villas side by side; roller or pleated blinds fitted inside deep recesses work well.
- Kundu: also part of Aksu, but hotels and holiday residences have different needs – see curtains and blinds in Kundu.
What we suggest by home type
New flat: zebra blinds or sheers with a roller blind in the living room; blackout in bedrooms, sized to overlap the window; aluminium blinds in the kitchen.
Garden villa: a double curtain system with sheers and drapes in separate channels on sliding doors; heavy drapes in high-ceilinged rooms, with motorised tracks an option to discuss for very wide glazing.
Farmhouse: wooden blinds and linen-look curtains on a pole, in fabrics that come down easily when the dusty season arrives.
Moving into a new build
In Altıntaş and around the district centre, curtains are often left until the very end. A few things are worth settling early. If you are planning a suspended ceiling or hidden lighting, leave room for a curtain track. The depth of the window frames decides whether roller and pleated blinds go on the glass or inside the recess – we check this when measuring. Keep long curtains clear of an air-conditioning unit next to the window. And on a balcony door used all day, choose something that stacks aside or is fitted to the door leaf itself. Measuring an empty flat before the furniture arrives also makes fitting day quicker.
In villas with floor-to-ceiling glass, pulling heavy drapes by hand every day gets tiresome, so we look at motorised curtains together at the visit; the price depends on mechanism and size and is given on site.
Light shades – off-white, sand, pale grey – fade less in full sun and hide dust better than strong colours.
