What homes in Kumluca have to cope with
Kumluca lies on Antalya’s west coast, past Kemer on the way towards Finike. Much of the plain is covered in greenhouses, and farming sets the pace of local life. Along the shore are Mavikent and Beykonak, to the south-east the bay of Adrasan, and beyond it the wooded holiday area around Olympos.
Most homes are detached or low-rise: flats in the town centre, garden houses on one or two floors in the surrounding neighbourhoods, holiday homes and guesthouses near the sea. Three things shape the choice of window covering:
- Strong sun – with few tall buildings to cast shade, windows take direct sun all day and fabrics fade quickly.
- Humidity – sea air and greenhouses keep moisture high, so quick-drying fabrics and rust-free fittings matter.
- Glare – light bouncing off greenhouse covers can make south-facing rooms uncomfortably bright at midday.
Area by area
Town centre and Hacıveliler. In apartments, sheer curtains with a roller or zebra blind in front give daytime privacy on busy streets and darkness at night.
Mavikent and Beykonak. Close to the beach and surrounded by greenhouses. A screen roller blind takes the heat and glare out of the light without hiding the view.
Adrasan and Çavuşköy. Holiday homes and guesthouses used mainly in season. Easy-to-remove fabrics and aluminium blinds need little attention when the house stands empty over winter.
Olympos side and neighbouring Çıralı. Green, low-key and full of timber bungalows. Wooden blinds or linen-look curtains suit the setting; bedrooms benefit from something that blocks the early light.
Altınyaka. Inland and higher up, with cooler summers and colder winters – lined curtains with sheers help keep the warmth in.
Suggestions by type of home
- Family house with garden: sheers plus zebra blinds in the living room, vertical blinds on wide garden doors, blackout blinds in bedrooms for an afternoon rest in the heat.
- Holiday let: wipeable roller blinds and simple chain mechanisms that guests cannot get wrong.
- Guesthouse: blackout in rooms, screen fabric in shared spaces – see our hotel curtain solutions.
Lighter shades such as off-white, beige and pale grey keep their colour far longer in full sun than saturated tones. Our guide to curtains for Antalya’s climate goes into fabrics in more detail.
Closing a holiday home for winter
Many coastal homes in Kumluca are shut from autumn to spring. Before you lock up, wash and fully dry the fabric curtains – damp fabric in a closed house soon smells and stains. Roll roller and zebra blinds right up rather than leaving them half down, so the fabric sits protected inside the roll, and leave venetian slats closed to keep sun off the furniture. When you reopen, run each mechanism a few times; if anything sticks, let us know.
