Step 1: What is the room for?
Every room asks something different of its windows, so start with the room rather than the product:
- Living room: used all day and seen by guests, so both light and looks matter. A double curtain system with sheers and drapes, or zebra blinds for day and night modes, work well.
- Bedroom: darkness comes first. Blackout roller blinds or lined curtains protect your sleep, especially on early summer mornings.
- Kitchen: steam, grease and frequent cleaning. Aluminium venetian blinds or a wipeable roller blind make sense.
- Bathroom: steam wears fabric out quickly; aluminium venetians shrug it off.
- Home office: sun on the screen is the enemy. Screen roller blinds or wooden venetians with adjustable slats give light without glare.
- Glass balcony: sliding panels of different widths leave pleated blinds as practically the only tidy solution.
How sun, humidity and sea air affect different materials is a separate topic, covered in our guide to curtains for Antalya’s climate. This guide follows the decision from the room’s needs to the final choice.
Step 2: How much light, how much privacy?
These two needs often pull against each other. Ask yourself: is it more important to see out during the day, or not to be seen?
- To keep a view: screen roller blinds or a fine sheer.
- To adjust often during the day: zebra blinds, venetians or silhouette shades.
- On street-facing windows close to neighbours: a top-down pleated blind lets light in from above while the lower part stays covered.
- For real darkness: blackout fabric, fitted on the wall rather than inside the recess so less light leaks round the edges.
Step 3: Spread the budget across rooms
Price depends mainly on size, fabric, mechanism and fitting method. As a guide, aluminium blinds average around 2,000 TL per m², wooden blinds around 3,000 TL per m² and pleated blinds 1,000–4,000 TL per m² depending on fabric – see our curtain and blind prices for details. For everything else we confirm the price at the free home visit once we have measured and you have chosen a fabric. A sensible way to spend: invest in the living room and main bedroom, keep spare rooms simpler. Instalments on a credit card are possible.
Step 4: Think about upkeep before you buy
Sheers and drapes come down for washing, which takes time; roller and zebra blinds are cleaned in place; venetians are wiped. Our curtain washing and care guide explains the right method for each fabric type. For a home you cannot clean often, flat surfaces that collect little dust are the easy option.
Step 5: Children and pets
Cords and chains deserve real attention in family homes:
- Fix every cord and chain to a wall cleat high above a child’s reach.
- Keep cots, beds and play areas away from windows.
- Choose cordless or motorised operation where you can – motorised curtains remove the problem entirely.
- Cats and dogs love floor-length curtains. Stopping drapes just above the floor and choosing a robust fabric saves a lot of snagging.
Step 6: If you live abroad
Many of our customers own a flat or villa in Antalya but spend most of the year elsewhere. We can handle the whole project remotely: measuring with someone you trust on site, samples and dimensions shared on WhatsApp, production after your approval, then fitting.
Step 7: Colour, pattern and texture
In small rooms, a shade close to the wall colour makes the window feel wider; in a large living room a darker or textured drape adds depth. If the room already has patterned wallpaper or upholstery, a plain fabric keeps things calm, while a patterned curtain can become the focal point of a simple room. Always look at fabric in daylight at your own window – a sheer that looks white in a shop can look cream at home.
A five-question checklist
Before the home visit, jot down answers to these: What is the room used for? Light or privacy first? Which rooms get most of the budget? How often can I clean? Are there small children or pets? To see what each type does side by side, read our curtain and blind types comparison; when your answers are ready, contact us and we will narrow the options down together at a free home visit.
