Why hand curtain cleaning over?
Washing a single sheer at home is usually easy. Taking down four-metre lined drapes from a high ceiling, getting fabric that will not fit in a home machine cleaned properly and hanging it back without creases is another matter. Drapes washed too hot can shrink, linings can pucker, and a roller blind fabric that goes through a machine may lose its coating and never hang flat again. That is why our curtain cleaning starts with looking at the fabric, not with a fixed routine.
If you would rather do it yourself, our guide to curtain washing and care explains each fabric step by step.
What we clean
- Sheer curtains – sheers catch dust and cooking smells and turn grey over time; fine voile needs careful handling so it does not snag or shrink.
- Curtains and drapes – heavy and often lined drapes, including velvet or blackout-lined fabrics, are treated as the care label requires.
- Roller, zebra and blackout blinds – never soaked. We choose a method that protects the coating, after seeing the blind.
- Sash curtains and double curtain systems – also included.
Venetian blinds are wiped rather than washed – see how to clean blinds. If a blind has a broken cord or bent slats, what it needs is blind repair, not cleaning.
How it works
- Send photos of the curtains, the labels if possible, and tell us how many windows there are.
- We assess the fabric, size and condition. If photos are not enough, we arrange a visit.
- Price and date are agreed once we have seen the curtains. We do not quote a per-metre guess in advance, because two curtains of the same size can be very different jobs.
- Taking down, cleaning and rehanging – we also check gliders, hooks and fittings while the curtains are down.
When cleaning is not worth it
Some curtains are past saving. A sheer that has hung in strong sun for years may be thin and starting to tear; a roller blind with a flaking coating will not lie flat again after cleaning. In that case we tell you honestly and show you what new fabric would cost instead.
For holiday-home owners
Many of our foreign clients own flats they use only part of the year. Before the season, or before a new tenant moves in, you can send us photos from abroad, approve the price on WhatsApp in English, and arrange for us to be let in. Contact us via the contact page.
